Kearney Eye Institute's contact lens department includes a fully equipped eye lane and is staffed by specially trained technicians. Our technicians are specialized in the area of contact lenses and have intense training on the fitting of those lenses.
Kearney Eye Institute also offers free routine contact lens exams with the contact technicians to make sure the eyes remain healthy while wearing contacts. It is our policy to perform free, six-month contact lens exams for our patients in disposable soft contacts. We want you to be happy with your contacts as well as healthy.

One-Day Wear Lenses - Contact lenses that you open fresh each day and throw away at the end of the day.
Two-Week Disposable Lenses - Contacts that can be worn for two weeks and then thrown away. These lenses must be taken out at night.
Planned Replacement Lenses - Non-extended wear contacts that you purchase in a one year supply. These lenses are replaced at one, two, three or four month intervals.
Extended or Continuous Wear Disposable Lenses - Contacts that are worn for one week or one month continuously depending on what is recommended by your doctor or contact lens technician.
Daily Wear Single Vision Lenses - Contacts that are worn every day and taken out every night. These lenses must be cleaned regularly and usually need to be replaced every six to twelve months.

Dry Eyes & Winter
Symptoms of dry eyes can plaque many contact lens wearers, especially during the winter months. What can be done to maintain lens comfort?
Use rewetting drops several times daily, once a day probably won't do the trick.
Use drops that do not have preservatives in them if you are sensitive to solutions.
Try dehydrating your lens midday with your daily disinfecting system for as little as 5 minutes.
Be aware of your blinking habits, practicing complete and frequent blinks can help.
Concentration on computer monitors can cause tear evaporation.
Air drafts can also cause dehydration of the contact lenses. Be sure to keep your car heater from blowing towards your face.
There is also the availability of punctal plugs. These plugs are inserted in the punctum and it is an easy procedure that can provide relief for many soft lens wearers.
