Dry Eyes & Winter

Symptoms of dry eyes can plaque many contact lens wearers, especially during the winter months. What can be done to maintain lens comfort?

  • Use rewetting drops several times daily, once a day probably won't do the trick.
  • Use drops that do not have preservatives in them if you are sensitive to solutions.
  • Try dehydrating your lens midday with your daily disinfecting system for as little as 5 minutes.
  • Be aware of your blinking habits, practicing complete and frequent blinks can help.
  • Concentration on computer monitors can cause tear evaporation.
  • Air drafts can also cause dehydration of the contact lenses. Be sure to keep your car heater from blowing towards your face.
  • There is also the availability of punctal plugs. These plugs are inserted in the punctum and it is an easy procedure that can provide relief for many soft lens wearers.
