LASer In-situ Keratomileusis LASIK - The physicians at Kearney Eye Institute offer LASIK (Laser in-situ keratomileusis) or more commonly known as refractive laser surgery. By utilizing the VISX Star 4 Excimer Laser with eye tracking technology, Kearney Eye Institute is committed to helping their patients reduce or possibly eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses by dramatically improving natural, unassisted vision. This virtually painless, in-office procedure has helped thousands obtain the lifestyle they desire without the need for cumbersome glasses or contact lenses. Dr. Linda Blakely is certified in LASIK and have been performing the procedure since 1999. We offer free screenings to people who are interested in the procedure and want additional information with no obligation.
During a free LASIK screening, our refractive coordinator will do much of the preliminary tests to determine if you are indeed a good candidate for the LASIK procedure. She will spend as much time as you desire explaining the procedure in detail and outlining your options. If you request to proceed, you will be scheduled to see one of our LASIK surgeons. The surgeon will perform a complete and thorough exam to determine the health of your eyes and verify whether you would be a candidate for Traditional or Custom LASIK.
We have been performing Custom LASIK since May, 2003. The VISX Star 4 Excimer Laser incorporates the new FDA approved technology, commonly referred to as Custom Wavefront LASIK. The Wavefront system captures a fingerprint of the eye with measurements 25 times more precise than previous technology. The Wavefront information is transmitted directly into the Star 4 Excimer Laser, which creates a custom treatment.
Should you decide to have the LASIK procedure, you will be required to bring a driver the day of LASIK. Once you arrive, the technicians will prep you for the procedure with the appropriate eye drops and you will be given some medication to help you relax. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. You will then be sent home with your driver and asked to return the following day. We request that you go home and rest with your eyes closed for the remainder of the day.
The day following LASIK the doctor will see you for a post operative check. If everything is stable, the doctor will ask to see you again in one week, one month, three months, six months and one year following the procedure. The appointments are included in your LASIK fee.
Most patients are thrilled with the results that LASIK gives them. However, patients need to be aware that LASIK cannot correct the need for reading glasses. Most patients chose to wear reading glasses when necessary, but some have opted to have LASIK done on one eye for near vision and the other for far vision. This process is called monovision and many patients have found it an excellent alternative to reading glasses or bifocal contacts. All of the options will be discussed during the LASIK screening.

Testimonials
Sue - Surgery Date December 23, 1999, Surgeon Dr. Blakely
"I love it! … To see the time on my clock radio, without having my nose touching it is great … and the rest of the day just gets better."
Scott - Surgery Date January 18, 2001, Surgeon Dr. Blakely
"Unbelievable! Everything and everyone was outstanding starting with the pre-op teaching through the actual procedure and now the results. I would recommend it to anyone. It still seems like a miracle when I go to take my contacts out and I remember I don't have them in!"
Ty- Surgery Date January 17, 2002, Surgeon Dr. Blakely
"I never realized how great it would be to not have to take out my contacts every night and clean them every morning. More importantly to not have to fumble for my glasses in the middle of the night if one of the kids needs me.
The staff at Kearney Eye all the way from the front desk to the nurses and doctors were great.
My vision was horrible and I was 20/15 the next morning."
